Snowflake Sweater

At the end of last year, I test knit a sock for theknitter.com. It was a really cute snowflake pattern in pretty thick yarn. While working on the cuff, someone asked me if I was making a sweater. I told them I wasn’t, but that started the wheels in my head turning. After getting permission from the original pattern author, I took the snowflake & cuff pattern and designed a simple toddler sweater from it. Here’s my daughter dancing about, refusing to take the sweater off despite the fact that it’s over 70 degrees this day:

I hadn’t washed or blocked it yet, so it’s still curling up on the bottom too much. I washed and gently blocked it this morning, and it stretched quite a bit. I was a little suprised to see that the color bled in the water - I was just washing it in the sink despite the fact that it is done with superwash yarn (Mission Falls 1824 Wool). The white snowflakes now look a bit purplish to me. What does one do with your yarn if you know it’s going to bleed?

Congratulations on starting a great blog, Nancy! The sweater is adorable and your husband’s sweater looks beautiful.

I wish I was where it was 70 degrees. I want to wear my flashy lace so much! I think about it every day, but I’d need another layer since it’s in the 30’s and snowy out.

On the needles, you had a lot in there I hadn’t tried. I love my Turbos and use them for almost everything, but they’re going to be too slippery for mom’s sweater (Alice Starmore’s St. Brigid) and I can’t get gauge. I had a pair of Crystal Palace circs once, knit 1 row, and took them back. The join drove me crazy and I didn’t like the stickiness. But even now that I need a set of sticky circs, I don’t think I’d go back to those.

I look forward to reading your blog! Welcome!

Nice Blog Nancy. Where exactly do you find the time? I’m lucky to write a check!

The snowflake sweater is adorable and we finally get to see Miss Cuteness.

Thanks Ingrid & Linda! As for the time… I stayed up way too late last night ‘playing’ :) Typepad makes it really easy to get the formatting looking nice.

Ingrid - you should try Addi Natura’s. Great join and the stickyness you probably want. I know your mom can get them (although I’m still waiting for the ones I ordered a week or so ago :)

Congrats on the blog and the finished sweater, they both look great!

Do you know about the Denver area knitters blog ring? You should consider joining.

I have been bitten by the blog bug too. I set up the blog through typepad, now if my husband would just let me use his computer once in a while I could get it formatted and ready for viewing. I’ll let you know when it is ready.

Sorry I missed our meeting last week. I went skiing with Ken. I’ll see you on the 27th!

Katie is so cute in her sweater. I’m looking forward to reading your blog and have added it to my favorites list. (BTW the needles are in)
