Spinning a Variegated Yarn

I still feel like I’m a fairly new spinner, even though I’ve been a spinner for a few years now.  I bought a gorgeous looking roving while on vacation. I’ve never spun a variegated roving before, and I had a serious desire for something super colorful and happy to spin.    A few days ago I posed the roving, and now you can see what different layers of it look like spun up:

Two very different looks, all in the same yarn!

I split the roving into several sections. There was an olive green that I just didn’t really like with the other colors. It was surrounded by a yellowish bright green on either end. THere is more than enough of that to spin it up into it’s own yarn and do something with it.

A friend asked me this weekend what I was going to make with my roving.  My reply, "Yarn". So far I don’t really spin with a project in mind, I just spin to have fun!

Finished: Bjerk

I do knit occasionally still :) and I managed to finish a sweater, Bjerk, for my mom:

Mom is visiting later this week, and I’ll get apicture of her actually wearing it. Overall it was a simple sweater to knit, it has some good finishing details (cast on in a different color. The neck detail with the small keyhole type slit) I blocked it before I put the sleeves in, and I thnk that made it slightly easier. I hope it didn’t stretch too much width wise as it fit her perfect before blocking.  We’ll see later this week.

New goodies

It’s been forever since I’ve posted. Bad Blogger! Well, here is some eye candy to assuage you:

This is some roving I bought while visiting Oregon.  On the left is some Black merino (I think it’s Merino) and the right is a hand dyed Blue Face Leicester.  It feels pretty soft in the roving; and i can still see some of the crimp so I don’t think it’s been too overprocessed.  i was thinking of plying the color with the black to tone it down just a bit. I’m definately going to enjoy spinning this up.
