Spinning a Variegated Yarn
February 27th, 2006 at 8:41 am (spinning)
I still feel like I’m a fairly new spinner, even though I’ve been a spinner for a few years now. I bought a gorgeous looking roving while on vacation. I’ve never spun a variegated roving before, and I had a serious desire for something super colorful and happy to spin. A few days ago I posed the roving, and now you can see what different layers of it look like spun up:
Two very different looks, all in the same yarn!
I split the roving into several sections. There was an olive green that I just didn’t really like with the other colors. It was surrounded by a yellowish bright green on either end. THere is more than enough of that to spin it up into it’s own yarn and do something with it.
A friend asked me this weekend what I was going to make with my roving. My reply, "Yarn". So far I don’t really spin with a project in mind, I just spin to have fun!

I really am jealous of your new Whooly Winder–what a nice neat, smooth wind. Wow! I am anxious to try it (hope I can with your permission) and I may have to buy myself an early _______ present (you can fill in the blank). =)
