Painting done: Dining room

Here is the before (and before any furniture moved in either):

Another before, with stuff this time:

So, here they are. The pictures of the dining room. This shows the largest wall we have that isn’t broken up by a window or an entrance to another room: Click HERE to see a swatch of the color.

Now, standing next to the bookshelf, with the kitchen to my left:

See all that empty space by the cat tree? I have no idea what we’ll do with it. From the other direction (kitchen now to the right of the bookshelf you see here).

That last picture makes it look a bit like the wall keeps going to the right, but it doesn’t - there’s another opening the same size as the one you see here, but it leads into the family room (no breakfast bar in the way though).

Other projects slated for this room.

  • Recover all the chairs. I have fabric already that coordinates with the paint. The fabric on the barstools doesn’t go with the new paint color at all!
  • Hang stuff on the few walls we have.
  • Do something with the big open area that makes sense.
  • Paint the kitchen something other than stark white. I don’t want a dark color for that room because it is in it’s own corner and the only windows to it are in the dining room.

I’m very very pleased with how this came out. It’s exactly the color I was going for. I’d say the color in the pictures is pretty accurate, with the exceptoin of the very bottom one, on the right it looks more pale orange than the clay-red it should be. The name of the color is Cajun Red, but really it should be clay-brick red. It adds warmth to the ceiling and coordinates with the wood instead of washing it out.

Oh yeah, and Jill says “Isn’t this supposed to be a knitting blog?”. We’ll get back to knitting soon. :)

The dining room looks beautiful. The ceiling wood looks very striking with the Cajun Red. Good job on the painting. Would have loved to be able to help. . . next time. =)

The color is great! Congratulations on letting go of the blah color. I didn’t really see you as a clay red type of gal. It’s nice.

That’s a great color - all the windows make a nice contrast. I like it! As for the empty space… fiber! yarn! lol - seriously, I have no clue….

That’s gorgeous - I’ve always wanted to experiment with a red colour, and now I can vicariously!

Just think of this period as documenting the preparation of the space to enhance it as a fiber zone. :)

Miss you, Nancy! Glad things are going well for you out there. We’ll be sure to keep your spirit with us for Sheep to Shawl this week!
