At Knit’s End

At Knit's End, drawing

I had this book hanging around on the coffee table and the kids have taken to ‘reading’ through it from time to time. Katie has been busy tracing and copying anything interesting in the house. So I found this drawing in the pile of things she was working on one day. Pretty cool, huh?

I just have to say Woot!!!!!!!!

This screen will likely change a bit, but the general idea is here, and I’m thrilled to get even further on it.

Spinning group

Knitting for charity

This weekend our spinning group met for the first time in a new location. It’s really close to my house and was very comfortable for our group. I think we’ll be meeting there again! We still had quite a few people stop and gawk at us a bit, but that’s only to be expected. I spun some more purple merino/cashmere yarn, finishing up one bobbin, and started in on some BFL. I’ve decided I’ll make socks with the BFL yarn once I’m done. There isn’t a lot of color variation in it, but I think it’ll be very pretty. Shiori and Norma are sitting here helping with a charity knitting project. There wasn’t enough yarn, so they are each knitting from one end of the same ball of yarn.

In other news, I wrote my first greasemonkey script today. Anyone who uses paypal and prints invoices from it would benefit from this script. I always hated how paypal made me click “Details” for an order, then once that page loaded, I could go to the “Print packing slip” link. This lets me skip the unnecessary page by putting the packing slip link on the main page. Get it here:

(you’ll also need greasemonkey; a way cool plugin for firefox)

Something to distract you from the lack of knitting content

Cool picture of big holes in the ground: Click here.

The diamond mine pictured is I think one of the ones that the Ice Road Truckers go to.   I love that show.

Also, for those of us with kids. Haven’t you always wanted to do this?

A few things strike me about this picture.

  1. The baby looks pretty happy to me. Was it happy during the taping process?
  2. There is no explanation with the picture.   I’m just so curious as to what caused this event to happen
  3. The duck that is up on the wall next to the baby - and you can see the baby has it’s hand grabbing at the duck.  “If ducky is here with me, everyting is A-ok!”

Some knitting is happening - although slowly.  Rainbow Cardigan is on the sleeves now; but it’s a big lump of rainbow so a picture wouldn’t show you much.  Monkey socks only get knit on occasionally; although they are always with me in my purse. I’m really hoping to finish them in a fairly timely manner (read that as “before this winter completely ends”), and since winter hasn’t even started, I should be good to go on it.

Haven’t you always wanted a monkey*?

Monkey sock

I’ve joined the cult - the cult of people making monkey socks. It’s an easy pattern to memorize, and quick to knit.

*Someone else used this blog title recently too; but I can’t rememember who.  Substitute “Hey, hey, we’re the monkeys - people say we monkey around” at your leisure.

Thursday Spinning

Charka for spinning cotton

This week we had spinning on thursday. I decided to not take my wheel as I wasn’t feeling up to hauling it into the car and into the mall. Shiori let me try out her charka (here she is demonstrating it for me) to spin cotton. It was really fun to spin on. I also had my drop spindles with me; and had little success getting comfortable with the lighter weight spindle I had brought, which turns out to be some sort of weird mid-whorl style that doesn’t really spin very well as a drop spindle, but I’m not sure how else to spin with it.  Phooey.

There were quite a few of us that didn’t bring our wheels. Shane did, but ended up spending the majority of his time untangling yarn:
THis is what Shane did at spinning

He didn’t even curse once. We were all encouraging him to - but apparently he has the patience of a saint.  You can see Marie on the very far right with a drop spindle too.

I also brought my lace shawl to show off. Marie drapes it over her arms for me to take a picture of:

I need to get a picture of me wearing it, but haven’t managed to make the time.
